The representatives of the EU Project "MOVE IT like Lublin" - initiative for the sustainable development of public transport in the municipality of Chisinau participated in the First Economic Forum Chisinau 2022 "Invest in Chisinau"

The representatives of the EU Project "MOVE IT like Lublin" participated in the discussion panel on urban mobility and integrated sustainable transport for today and for the future, organized within the Chisinau Economic Forum 2022 "Invest in Chisinau", which took place between September 30 - 1 October 2022.

The forum hosted experts from the country and abroad, economic agents, who addressed topics such as urban mobility, public transport development, tourism development, energy efficiency, renewable energy, etc. 

In the Panel dedicated to urban mobility, Octavian Lungu, the project manager "MOVE IT like Lublin - initiative for the sustainable development of public transport in the municipality of Chisinau", presented this initiative for the sustainable development of public transport, reviewing the objectives of the Project, the activities carried out, ongoing and those to be implemented by the end of 2024. 

The activities carried out so far within the project "MOVE IT like Lublin - initiative for the sustainable development of public transport in the municipality of Chisinau" include: the research of road transport legislation at the municipal and national level, the realization of the progress report on the implementation of the provisions of the EU Association Agreement Moldova in the field of public transport, the development of the study on the best practices for the prevention of COVID-19 in public transport, the organization of the European Mobility Week in Lublin and in Chisinau, the training of officials from the General Directorate of Public Transport and communication channels from the City Hall Chisinau, installation of antibacterial equipment in public transport units, etc. 

At the same time, the development process of a modern traffic monitoring center and the development of the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan were started, a document that will be developed within 2 years by the company and a group of international experts and will represent a strategic planning document for the municipality of Chisinau. This Plan will promote the smart development of the city's infrastructure, so that it meets the mobility needs of all the capital's residents and visitors, transforming it into a more accessible, inclusive and efficient city.

Context:

The "MOVE IT like Lublin" project - the initiative for the sustainable development of public transport in the municipality of Chisinau, financed by the European Union, is implemented on the basis of a partnership between the City Hall of Chisinau and the City Hall of Lublin in Poland. The project will be implemented by 2025 and will provide support to transform the city's public transport services into a more inclusive, safer, resilient and sustainable transport system. The total budget of the project is in the amount of 3,500,000 euros, of which 3,325,000 euros is the contribution of the European Union in the form of a grant, and 175,000 euros are allocated by the Chisinau City Hall.
