EU Project "MOVE IT like Lublin" organizes a new meeting for the development of the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan of Chisinau Municipality

The "MOVE IT like Lublin" project - the initiative for the sustainable development of public transport in the municipality of Chisinau, financed by the European Union and implemented by the Chisinau City Hall, continues its efforts to develop a safer, more sustainable, and efficient urban transport system.

On September 14th, the members of the Public Transport Working Group gathered to discuss the development of the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP) for Chisinau Municipality.

The public meeting was attended by representatives from Chisinau City Hall, the Project Implementation Unit, the Directorate General for Urban Mobility, the Directorate General for Architecture, Urbanism, and Land Relations, as well as specialists from municipal transport companies, local and international experts.

"These meetings are extremely important for the development of our city's SUMP. Sustainable urban mobility is the key to a city where residents can enjoy a cleaner environment, ensured road safety, efficient and sustainable public transport, and more connected communities", stated the Deputy Mayor of Chisinau, Ilie Ceban.

The main focus of the discussions was the presentation and debate on the Performance Measurement Report of the transport system, prepared by the international consortium of experts led by Civitta, contracted to develop the SUMP for Chisinau Municipality. The report included a detailed analysis of traffic, current indicators for assessing public transport performance, existing road infrastructure, environmental impact, parking availability, road safety indicators, and aspects related to social inclusion.

"We have included a summary of the results and perspectives regarding the future of the city's transport system. Such a report is essential for informed decision-making and the continuous improvement of a city's transport system", explained Reinhold Stadler, an urban mobility expert.

"Chisinau Municipality is continuously evolving, and the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan represents our firm commitment to finding solutions for all transport and urban environment-related challenges. It is an investment in a better future for all", emphasized Olga Lozan, the project manager of "MOVE IT like Lublin".

The Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan is developed by a consortium of 5 international companies and is scheduled to be presented by the end of 2024. The document will include short, medium, and long-term measures, with a focus on the development of public transport and the promotion of urban mobility.
