The "MOVE IT like Lublin" project, funded by the European Union, was presented at the Urban Social Forum in Chisinau

The manager of the EU project "MOVE IT like Lublin" - the initiative for the sustainable development of public transport in the municipality of Chisinau, Octavian Lungu, presented the project at the first Urban Social Forum in Chisinau, held from May 4-6, 2023.

The purpose of the event was to discuss the best European practices, consolidate efforts towards the development of the capital and create benefits for the local community, in accordance with the main objective of the Sustainable Development Goals, which aims to ensure inclusive development for all.

This year's forum brought together representatives of public authorities, international organizations, non-governmental organizations, professional associations, providers of socially important services, investors, and development partners, as well as residents of the municipality.

During the panel discussion "Inclusive City", Mr. Octavian Lungu presented the benefits and objectives of the project for the development of sustainable urban mobility in the municipality of Chisinau, as well as ongoing and upcoming activities to be implemented by the end of 2024. He also highlighted the positive impact of the project on the local community and the importance of efficient public transport development.

As a result of the implementation of the EU project "MOVE IT like Lublin", the municipality of Chisinau will have a more advanced regulatory and institutional framework in the field of transport, the first Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan developed according to European standards, public health measures implemented in public transport units, optimized suburban routes, and a functional Municipal Traffic Monitoring Center.

All these actions will significantly contribute to the development of urban mobility to make the city more inclusive, safer and more sustainable, so as to serve the needs of all residents of the municipality of Chisinau.

Context:

The "MOVE IT like Lublin" project - the initiative for the sustainable development of public transport in the municipality of Chisinau, financed by the European Union, is implemented on the basis of a partnership between the City Hall of Chisinau and the City Hall of Lublin in Poland. The project will be implemented by 2025 and will provide support to transform the city's public transport services into a more inclusive, safer, more resilient and sustainable transport system. The total budget of the project is in the amount of 3,500,000 euros, of which 3,325,000 euros is the contribution of the European Union in the form of a grant, and 175,000 euros are allocated by the Chisinau City Hall.
