MOVE IT like Lublin

A delegation from the Chisinau City Hall participated in the second global meeting of the "Partnerships for Sustainable Cities," supported by the EU

The "MOVE IT like Lublin" project - the sustainable public transport development initiative in Chisinau municipality, funded by the European Union, informs that from March 12th to 14th, 2024, in Barcelona, Spain, an official delegation from Chisinau participated in the second meeting of the EU Program Coordination Committee "Partnerships for Sustainable Cities."

The purpose of the meeting was to take stock of the partnership project results, as well as to address specific issues related to sustainable urban development. Thematic workshops included topics such as territorial planning, waste management, water quality, entrepreneurship promotion, citizen participation, and circular economy.

The Chisinau Municipality, as the beneficiary of the "MOVE IT like Lublin" project, was represented by the Mayor, Ion Ceban, and the Vice-Mayor, Ilie Ceban. Malgorzata Galus, representing the Lublin City Hall, Poland, also participated in the meeting. The Mayor emphasized that productive meetings will open up new opportunities for bilateral collaboration and strengthen multilateral platforms.

"Following the success of the 2023 meeting in Brussels, the Barcelona meeting is a good opportunity for cities to evaluate and present the partnership results, as well as to propose recommendations regarding the sustainability and continuity of these programs, taking into account the recent significant changes in EU development policy," mentioned the mayor of Chisinau.

Such meetings, like the one in Barcelona, ​​provide us with an opportunity to evaluate our progress, identify challenges, and explore innovative solutions for sustainable urban development," said Malgorzata Galus, representing the Lublin City Hall, Poland.

The second meeting of the EU Program Coordination Committee "Partnerships for Sustainable Cities" was attended by representatives of the 57 city-to-city partnerships, financed and implemented within this global program of the European Union. The Partnership for Sustainable Cities is an initiative launched by the European Commission in 2018 to encourage cities worldwide to collaborate and develop sustainable solutions for urban challenges.

 

Context:

The "MOVE IT like Lublin" project - the initiative for the sustainable development of public transport in the municipality of Chisinau, financed by the European Union, is implemented on the basis of a partnership between the City Hall of Chisinau and the City Hall of Lublin in Poland. The project will be implemented by 2025 and will provide support to transform the city's public transport services into a more inclusive, safer, more resilient and sustainable transport system. The total budget of the project is in the amount of 3,500,000 euros, of which 3,325,000 euros is the contribution of the European Union in the form of a grant, and 175,000 euros are allocated by the Chisinau City Hall.
