The European Union supports Chișinău in equipping public transport with air disinfection devices
The city of Chișinău has implemented an initiative financially supported by the European Union, within the "MOVE IT like Lublin" project. The aim of this initiative was to ensure safer travels on public transport. Approximately 500 trolleybuses and buses operated by the municipal enterprises Regia Transport Electric Chișinău and Parcul Urban de Autobuze have been equipped with bactericidal devices that purify the air and combat the spread of respiratory infections.
The free distribution of bactericidal equipment takes place in two stages. In 2022, the first batch consisting of 682 such devices was provided. Recently, the installation of another 310 air recirculators was completed, reinforcing the municipality's efforts to provide a healthier environment for passengers. The total value of this donation exceeds 144 thousand euros.
"This project represents a significant step in modernizing public transport in the city of Chișinău. We are pleased to have the opportunity to adopt the best international practices in this field and to bring innovation to our services. Through the support provided by the European Union, we have managed to acquire latest generation bactericidal recirculators, which will have a positive impact on the quality of travel. Modernizing public transport is a priority for our administration, and this initiative is a significant step towards achieving this goal," emphasized the vice mayor of the capital, Ilie Ceban.
The devices use ultraviolet rays to disinfect the air, destroying the DNA of bacteria, viruses, and other pathogens, ensuring a safer and healthier environment in public transport vehicles, and they are certified by health authorities.
