The European Transport Picnic was organized as part of the European Funds Days

In May, the European Transport Picnic took place in Lublin, Poland, as part of the European Funds Days. The event was held under the auspices of the project “MOVE IT like Lublin – an initiative for sustainable development of public transport in Chisinau”, funded by the European Union and implemented in partnership by the cities of Lublin and Chisinau.

The event brought together innovation in urban transport and recreational activities for the whole family, offering visitors an educational and interactive experience about environmentally friendly urban mobility.

The general public, transport enthusiasts, but also numerous families with children had the opportunity to participate in a variety of interactive and educational activities. Visitors had the opportunity to ride historic Ikarus buses, admire state-of-the-art eco-friendly vehicles – trolleybuses, electric and hydrogen buses – and test drive electric and cargo bicycles from the Lublin City Bike system. Children enjoyed workshops, games, animations and competitions with prizes, while adults could benefit from free medical consultations and first aid courses.

The event was organized by the Roads and Public Transport Authority of Lublin, within the project “MOVE IT like Lublin – an initiative for sustainable development of public transport in Chisinau”, an example of effective cooperation between the two cities. With the financial support of the European Union, Chisinau is adopting modern urban mobility models inspired by the success of Lublin – an award-winning city for sustainable mobility.

This partnership represents an initiative for the sustainable development of public transport in the municipality of Chisinau, providing support for the transformation of public transport services into a more inclusive, safer, more resilient and sustainable system, which brought innovation and outdoor fun dedicated to modern and environmentally friendly public transport to the forefront.

The European Transport Picnic in Lublin was the focal point of the celebration of the European Funds Days in the city, being an important platform for the exchange of good practices in the context of the collaboration between Lublin and Chisinau.

Background Information:

The “MOVE IT like Lublin” project – Sustainable Public Transport Development Initiative in Chișinău Municipality, funded by the European Union, is implemented through a partnership between Chișinău City Hall and Lublin City Hall in Poland. The project will run until 2025 and will support the transformation of the city’s public transport services into a more inclusive, safer, more resilient, and more sustainable transport system. The total budget of the project is €3,500,000, of which €3,325,000 represents the European Union’s contribution as a grant, while €175,000 is allocated by Chișinău Municipality.
